Blog Journal #9

 Open educational resources (OER) are usually free, online websites that house pages and pages of information relating to educational content. An OER I have experience with is Khan Academy. When I was in high school, my teachers assigned us extra homework on this site. By doing the assignments there, I was able to gain extra practice on whatever lesson we were doing in a fun and interactive manner. You had to complete about ten or so questions on a particular math section, and they would give you hints along the way. Over time, you would win badges and trophies to commemorate your educational journey. https://www.khanacademy.org/ 


A new skill I learned from working on Assignment 2 was doing the Record Slide Show feature. I had never done it before and it was a bit nerve-wracking to do a timed presentation when every minute counts, but it worked out in the end. Additionally, we had to make the file two different ones which was a lot to do. Only one of my PowerPoint files had sound, so that made me worried, but overall I had fun making the presentation. Now I now how to do the Record Slide Show option.

  LAFS.5.RL.3.7 is a 5th-grade standard that aims to implement multimedia and visual elements into the classroom like Google Slides, PowerPoint, eBooks, or even creating online posters. By incorporating this practice to students, they can see how platforms like those can provide an interactive outlook on texts like books, poems, or tales. A Few Things About Me

I love reading. It is one of my hobbies that has been with me since middle school. If I'm not reading, most likely I am daydreaming about book plots, books I've read, books I am reading and would like to continue, or characters I've read before and liked. Since I am planning to be an author for my career, spending a good amount of time learning from some wonderful novelists does not seem to be completely negative, as they help me gain ideas about what I would like to write...and not write.  Last semester, I was in a Computer & Speech Technique class where we also used technology to make blogs about different topics that were assigned. Most were related to online activities like cyberbullying and keeping your personal information safe. The class helped me gain experience with avoiding uncredible sources on the internet as well as safety online. Copyright and fair use is a tricky thin line that I struggled with a lot when creating my own works. Sometimes things are copyrighted that you didn't even know belonged to someone else. I would essentially teach my students about the importance of knowing about copyright and the consequences that can come along with misusing someone else's work. However, I would encourage further for them to make their own personal creations, and if they do choose to include aspects of someone else's, give credit when it is due. Just don't make someone else's work yours entirely.  Decreased productivity seems to hinder education the most in my opinion due to technology based off of prior experience. A way I would increase my student's productivity in the classroom would be to assign times within the class to work with no distractions and free time.
